Marstal Maersk, the first ultra-large vessel with an approximate length of 400M carrying out repairing activity in GWD, was successfully delivered on 12:30 of 26th December, 2018.
Besides repairing activities, the vessel also request for conversion activities, including conversion for 40 hatch covers at wharf, dual rudder blades, 30000sqm hull full blasting to SA2.0, and engine room system, as well as adding desulfurization exhaust piping system and dual forward and side propeller inspection and repairing. Broad scope of the work and the affects by large number of simultaneous operations had brought great challenge for both coating and structural department, especially when the difficult activity of rudder blades conversion conflicts with the operation of hull full blasting. At the same time, client’s 12-person team, who is responsible for different jobs, also bring higher standard and requirement for the whole project management.
To ensure the grit blasting schedule, GWD project management team work closely with Coating Department to optimize the construction procedure. Taking manpower, equipment, transportation, quality control, environment protection and progress into consideration, we made use of every bit of time to carry out the grit blasting simultaneously with AFT rudder blade conversion and succeeded in completed the grit blasting task in one time as scheduled. Meanwhile, there were coating task for 800 sets for every coat with a forward part with highest point about 40m. This had brought greater challenge for Coating Department, who has limited resources on hand at that time. To ensure complete each coat within 5-6 hours, they prepared the painting drums in advance, accurately positioned every cherry-picker and arranged maintenance team on site.
Efforts and diligence of all person involved in the project ensure a successful delivery for Marstal Maersk. GWD project management team also won client’s recognition and satisfactory, as well as solid foundation for more repairing projects for Maersk vessels of same type in the next year.
