GWD Dry Dock’s 1st 19000TEU Container Carrier
Ultra-large container carrier entering dry dock
On December 9th, a 19000TEU container carrier, Marstal Maersk entered GWD’s 2# dry dock safely. With a length of 399m, width of 59m and a depth of 30m, it is not only the 1st 400m-length vessel entered GWD for ship repairing, but also the 1st 400m-length vessel entering GWD’s upgraded 2# dry dock. The safe dry docking for this vessel brought precious experience for 400m-length ultra-large vessel’s dry docking, as well as help GWD to achieve the target of entering vessels on the same year after 2# dry dock’s conversion.
2# dry dock extension is a key project for GWD’s reforming and upgrading its business scope by developing ultra-large container carriers, oil tankers, FPSOs/FSOs and drilling platforms market. The main structural work for the project included 190,000cbm earth excavation, 40,000m tubular piles, 10,000cbm bored piles, 20,000cbm high pressure jet grouting piles, 40,000cbm double shafts mixing piles, 50,000cbm concrete structure and 5000 tons of reinforcement. 2# dry dock extension project started construction on March 28th, 2017. With the support from CSSC Group and governmental authorities, and joint effort of GWD, Guangzhou Salvage Bureau and China Shipbuilding NDRI Engineering, the project had completed the main structural work at the end of June of 2018 as scheduled and won written praise from Planning and Development Department from CSSC Group.
